“Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” Romans 15:7
I am Daniel Lawson, and I am your new priest here: new both in that I haven’t been your priest before, and also in that this is my first call as a priest.
There’s no such thing as a part time priest; it’s part of who I am all the time, but as has been the case for most of the priests who have served this church over the course of its long history, I am bi-vocational: I work for St. Paul’s part time. I also work as a professor of economics at Oakland Community College. My family and I live in Rochester Hills. Before I came here, I served as a deacon at St. Mary-in-the-Hills, Lake Orion, and my home congregation is Nativity, Bloomfield Township.
My job as your priest, according to the Book of Common Prayer, is to proclaim by word and deed the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to fashion my life in accordance with its precepts, to love and serve the people among whom I work, caring alike for young and old, strong and weak, rich and poor. I am to preach, to declare Gods’ forgiveness to penitent sinners, to pronounce Gods’ blessing, to share in the administration of Holy Baptism and in the celebration of the mysteries of Christs’ Body and Blood, and to perform the other ministrations entrusted to me.
All of us who are baptized into Jesus Christ are ministers. I look forward to growing in ministry with all of you in the years to come as we proclaim the reign of God is at hand, helping all people be reconciled to the love of God, empowering them to love and worship their God with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength, and to serve others, loving neighbor as self.
See you in church!
